2007
A Co-Production with The Ancram Opera House
From the novella by Henry James
Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher
Directed by Mahayana Landowne
With:
Aileen Barry & Mark O’Connell
“Ms. Barry and Mr. O’Connell are both accomplished and riveting performers” – Marsden Epworth, The Millerton News
Lynx performed this haunting adaptation at The Ancram Opera House in upstate, NY. Based on Henry James provocative tale of suspense, horror and repressed sexuality, this adaptation gives the famous story yet another turn of its own. A young governess journeys to a lonely manor house to care for two recently orphaned children. But she is not their first governess. She is told that her predecessor went away. Now the new governess has begun to see specters haunting the children, and she must find a way to stop the fiends before it is too late. A chilling story of terror….and horror….and death that blurs the lines between reality and the imagination.

QUEEN ANNE’S LACE
Community Outreach Project/ A study on Elder Abuse
By Mark OConnell
“Queen Anne’s Lace [as performed at the 2007 Breaking Down Barriers Conference] was moving, and thought provoking. It kept the audience engaged. As a member of the conference planning committee I encourage all professionals interested in the topic of elder mistreatment to see this play”.
-Aurora Salamone, NYC Department for the Aging
Queen Anne’s Lace is a one act play about the – only recently recognized – phenomenon of elder abuse. On June 19, 2007, Queen Anne’s Lace was performed at The Breaking Down Barriers Conference at The New School University – sponsored by JASA, NYC Department for the Aging (NYC DFTA), The Hebrew home for the Aged at Riverdale, NYC Human Resources Administration/ Department of Social Services, Fordham University, Institute for Retired Professionals at The New School, and The Carter Burden Center for the Aging. The performance served as a catalyst for a crucial and productive dialogue with the audience, moderated by Commissioner of NYC DFTA, Edwin Mendez-Santiago.
Queen Anne’s Lace has the potential to galvanize a variety of professionals working to put an end to elder abuse. This play is a great training tool to help professionals understand the many nuances of elder abuse.
The play also engages seniors who struggle with isolation & mistreatment and has the power to show them that they are not alone.
If you would like Queen Anne’s Lace performed as a training workshop for your employees, as part of your next conference, or at your senior home or center, please contact Lynx Ensemble Theater at email hidden; JavaScript is required.
